County-wide NSL parking enforcement scheme ready for September launch

LANCASHIRE County Council's new on-street parking enforcement scheme - delivered by NSL -  will be launched on 7 September and will be known as Lancashire Parking Services.

The new service will enforce on-street restrictions such as parking on double yellow lines, limited waiting bays, parking in bus lanes and parking on pedestrian crossings.

The key objectives of Lancashire Parking Services will be to provide a coordinated county-wide service which will improve road safety, aid the flow of traffic and help emergency vehicles and public transport to travel without obstruction or delay.

All organisations involved in the former ParkWise partnership will be working together to ensure there is a smooth transition to the new service.

County Councillor Keith Young, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: “This new approach will bring more flexibility to the scheme as officers will be more responsive to enforcement requests made by members of the public and will be able to travel across district boundaries.

"We are unifying decision making which will bring more consistency to the enforcement and appeals processes which will make the service fair and equal for all motorists across Lancashire.

"Civil Enforcement Officers will be able to move from one district to another within the same day which means officers can target the most important parking restrictions on main routes across the county and will also be able to target the parking problems which affect our local communities the most."

Enforcement for off-street car parks for three of Lancashire's district councils in South Ribble, Lancaster and Wyre will also be provided as part of the new service.

Notes to editors:
• Lancashire Parking Services will launch on 7 September 2009
• The processing office will be operated by Lancashire County Council.
• The new service replaces the former parking enforcement arrangement, known as ParkWise, between Lancashire County Council and 12 district councils across Lancashire, which expires on 6 September 2009.
