NSL appointed for Cambridgeshire parking operations
NSL - the UK's largest provider of on street parking services - has been appointed to run parking for Cambridgeshire County Council in a deal worth more than £8 million.
The contract could extend up to 10 years, and goes live on the first of April. It initially involves the daily deployment of around 20 Civil Enforcement Officers in the City of Cambridge, although there are plans to expand the service to cover other parts of the county.
The contract, currently operated by Legion Group, takes the number of local authorities NSL works for to 43 across the UK. NSL also provides services to organisations such as Transport for London, DVLA and the Northern Ireland Roads Service.
The Cambridgeshire appointment came three weeks after the company was awarded a contract to provide parking enforcement for the London Borough of Bexley.
NSL employs almost 3,000 Civil Enforcement Officers, Parking Attendants and Traffic Attendants across the UK.
The company's Operations Director Alastair Cooper commented: “Cambridge is a busy high-profile city with unique traffic pressures, and a high number of visitors and tourists, so the job of keeping the streets clear and the traffic flowing is just part of what we will expect to do. We will ensure our CEOs are ambassadors for both the County and this famous city and can assist visitors, tourists and residents in getting around as easily as possible.
“We are delighted Cambridgeshire have put their faith in us and look forward to working with them.”
County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Access, Councillor MacMcGuire, said: "The County Council expects to make significant savings, while
at the same time ensuring we do everything we can to minimise traffic congestion and hold-ups which can be caused by inconsiderate or illegal
parking on the narrow streets of Cambridge.
"For the local motorists and visitors to the city it will very much be business as usual and they should not notice any difference to the
parking enforcement procedures on the streets of Cambridge."
