New contract builds on NSL’s environmental enforcement success

Broxbourne Borough Council is the latest local authority to appoint NSL to assist in delivering effective environmental enforcement solutions. The Hertfordshire authority has now confirmed the appointment of NSL following a competitive tender to provide a concerted and borough-wide enforcement service to address littering and dog fouling issues. The news builds on the company’s long-standing civil enforcement activities in neighbouring authorities such as East Hertfordshire and its growing reputation for environmental enforcement work on behalf of London Boroughs as well as metropolitan and city councils right across the country.

The new contract is for an initial period of two years and will see uniformed Environmental Enforcement Officers, equipped with body-worn cameras, to encourage members of the public to comply with relevant environmental regulations concerning litter and dog fouling. The new team will also support local awareness and community initiatives and other targeted joint enforcement operations to encourage behavioural change and social responsibility in all areas of the borough.

“The vast majority of people are supportive of any action to ensure that the place where they live and work is clean and safe,” says NSL’s Executive Director for Local Government, Mark Hoskin. “This new enforcement programme will help us to address the irresponsible and inconsiderate actions of the small minority which can so easily blight town centres. We will be applying our wide-ranging experience to provide the Council with an efficient and cost-effective resource that harnesses the latest developments in enforcement technologies to help minimise environmental offences in the borough.”

Confirmation of the new environmental enforcement contract with Broxbourne Borough Council is the latest in a number of major contract gains announcements by NSL in the first half of 2016, covering a wide range of highly regulated public services from civil enforcement and street management to licensing and business processing. Following sustained organic growth over the past two years, the company is now providing outsourced services to over 60 local authorities across the UK as well as government agencies and other public authorities.
