NSL Care Services, which operates non-emergency patient transport throughout Lincolnshire in partnership with the NHS, has recently been given a clean bill of health by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The unannounced inspection covered safety of equipment, assessed the quality of NSL Care’s service provision, the care and welfare of service users, as well as the levels of cleanliness and infection control.
The CQC, which is responsible for ensuring national standards are met in hospitals, care homes and care services, and also sharing their reports with the public, paid NSL Care Services – Lincoln an unexpected visit on Christmas Eve. The CQC, which inspects care providers at least annually, gave not one call to action.
As part of the inspection, NSL’s service users were surveyed on their experience. Comments included:
‘The staff are very friendly… we have a chat as we travel. I enjoy it.’ ‘I can’t see how the service can be improved. I’m treated like the queen, like royalty.’ ‘It’s perfect; they help me into my house. They have the best drivers’. ‘They take the car right up to my door, as close as you can get. They always ask if there is anything they can do before they leave.’
The inspection also checked on the support NSL workers received. NSL is an Investor in People Gold, a level of accreditation that only a fraction of UK employers achieve.
