Lambeth Council, and civil enforcement specialist NSL, have sent a strong message to motorists who fraudulently use Blue Badges and commit permit fraud by securing a trio of recent prosecutions. Blue Badges are for the use of people with disabilities.
John Tobin, Denise Edwards, and David Rosborough all appeared before Camberwell Green Magistrates Court. Tobin, who pleaded guilty, was given 200 hours community service and ordered to pay £700 costs.
Edwards, appeared before magistrates on October 2, was sentenced to undertake one hundred hours of unpaid community service. Edwards was also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £400 costs.
Rossborough, who fraudulently used his brother-in-law’s Blue Badge, received an eighteen month conditional discharge, and ordered to pay a total of £365 for victim surcharge and costs.
The convictions highlight the work of NSL’s Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) who have helped Lambeth Council tackle levels of those who misuse the Blue Badge system.
Client Account Manager, Phillip Thurgood, said: “Blue Badges are issued for the sole use of the named motorist with disabilities. Fraudulent use of a Blue Badge is a serious offence, and the courts have shown they take a dim view of this abuse. We are proud to help Lambeth Council address the issue, and shall continue to do so.”
