Hackney’s Sharp-Eyed CCTV Operators Lead Gun Trio to Prison

Hackney’s CCTV operators proved just how vigilant they were when their observations led to a trio of gunmen being sent to prison for a total of forty years recently.
The CCTV operatives, employed by NSL and working on behalf of Hackney Council, suspected the behaviour of the three young men, who were on push bikes early last year. The operatives acted promptly and alerted their police colleagues to pass on vital information.
The unarmed police went out to find the trio, only to be then shot at by Ricardo Miles, who was still on his bike.
The trio turned out to be gang members: Ricardo Miles of Enfield, Daniel Ikumelo of Hackney, and Adebola Alimi of Islington.
The three were eventually arrested, which resulted in the confiscation of weapons that could have endangered the life of innocent passers-by.
The young men appeared before Snaresbrook Crown Court on July 23rd 2013, where they were found guilty for possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and cause fear of violence.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Bruce from Trident East Reactive Team, said: ‘‘Miles, Alimi and Ikumelo were known gang members who had gone out on bikes on the night in question armed with a firearm and a knife determined to endanger the lives of others. I would like thank Hackney’s CCTV operators who assisted in the arrest of these three men. Worthy of note is the bravery of unarmed officers PC Richard Gilbert and PC Mike Bredican who both continued to pursue the defendants even after having been shot at.’’
Neil Hutchinson, NSL’s Client Account Manager at the CCTV operations, said: “This is one of many instances where our CCTV teams across London have demonstrated their vigilance, and so have helped keep people safe. This particular incident bears testament to the professionalism and importance of our CCTV operatives.’’
