A Civil Enforcement Officer (CEO) abuser was sentenced to prison last Tuesday, for twelve weeks, and twelve months suspension, with two hundred hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £100 compensation.
On February 23rd 2013, a CEO, employed by NSL and working on behalf of Walthamstow council, was carrying out his duties on Sutherland road when he was attacked by young man.
The attacker, Ajaml Shahzadha from Acton, who was driving a white Mercedes van, kicked the CEO several times in his ribs, shouted, returned to his vehicle and drove off. The CEO acted promptly and alerted his colleagues, who wasted no time in informing the police.
The police quickly contacted the CEO and instructed him to follow the offender’s van; the CEO then demonstrated great bravery to chase the offender and gave his exact location. Both the CEO and the police then joined at the M11 junction, where they continued the chase, the attacker later gave in at Becton Roundabout.
The driver was eventually arrested and detained. The offender appeared before the Magistrates Court on September 10th 2013, where he was found guilty and charged for assaulting the CEO.
Neil Hutchinson, NSL’s Client Account Manager at Walthamstow, said: “This is one of many instances where our CEOs have to demonstrate high professionalism and courage, which often goes unnoticed. This particular incident reiterates that it’s completely unacceptable for violence to be used against CEOs at any time.”
