Calendar Kids Celebrate Road Safety Success

Travel safely and sustainably – that was the message from more than 1,500 talented children from 38 schools across the boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham.

The arty youngsters were participating in the annual 2013 Road Safety and School Travel Calendar competition, now in its eleventh year. The calendar project has been sponsored since its launch by leading design, engineering and landscape architecture consultancy Project Centre, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s traffic and road safety partner.

This popular competition continues to expand, with schools in Hammersmith and Fulham joining in for the first time, and NSL Services as an additional sponsor.

School pupils were invited to submit pictures on the themes of road safety and sustainable travel. Councillors in both boroughs then faced the difficult task of selecting the winners.

Neil Simpson, Project Centre’s Road Safety Officer who works for the Royal Borough, said: “We find the time children spend thinking about the subject and then producing the pictures is a great way of bringing road safety and transport issues into the classroom.”

At the recent awards evening all 48 winners and their families attended a reception in the

Mayor’s Parlour, followed by the presentation of certificates and book tokens provided NSL and Project Centre.
